Alfred Anucha Awards

Alfred Anucha Award in Entrepreneurship

The Anucha family established the Alfred Anucha Award in Entrepreneurship (A3E) in memory of Alfred Anucha, a visionary young entrepreneur who passed away at 26. This award honors Alfred’s passion for entrepreneurship and belief in the potential of young people by providing $2,500 annually to four young Black entrepreneurs. Over five years, the A3E will support at least 20 entrepreneurs, offering them financial aid and access to YSpace’s free entrepreneurship programs. Current and past YSpace participants are encouraged to apply

“Bet on Yourself. Bet on the Future. This was Alfred’s mantra and encapsulates the vision of A3E”, says Adanna Anucha, Alfred’s sister. “Our family is excited to support young Black entrepreneurs to ‘Bet on Yourself’ just as Alfred did. We hope A3E will serve as a living tribute and memorial to honour Alfred’s legacy as a true innovator and dreamer”

We are deeply grateful to Black Entrepreneurship Alliance, York U/Yspace, and YouthRex for providing us with this incredible opportunity to grow through their grant support"

"The Alfred Anucha Award provided timely validation and crucial support for Edventive. As an early-stage startup, this inaugural award allowed us to overhaul our branding and launch our Teacher Time Reclamation Project.Beyond the funding, this award reinforced the value of community for us as we build against the odds and reminded us, that as young Black entrepreneurs, we can dream big and bet on ourselves to shape the future."

Jonathon B

"The Alfred Anucha Award couldn't have come at a better time! We were working on creating a showreel video for our website and agency launch when the funds from the award arrived. It allowed us to hire film production talent, book a photo studio, and ensure high-quality results. This award has been a catalyst for demonstrating our service offerings, helping us to showcase our capabilities in the best possible light. Many thanks to the Anucha Family, YSpace, and the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance!!"

“I’m so honoured to have received the Alfred Anucha award this year. To be recognized as a young black male doing something special is something I never expected. When hearing his story, i knew I had to put the award back into pouring into our startup so that I can honour his legacy. The opportunities this have come from that recognition have been incredible & have let a lot of people find out about what Yekola is and the impact we can have. Thank you Alfred for your life & legacy”
