The Certificate in Business Process Improvement is a free, intensive 11-week program designed to equip Black-identifying professionals with the tools, frameworks, and leadership skills needed to thrive in today’s workforce.

Presented by the York University School of Continuing Studies, this blended learning experience combines live virtual classes, asynchronous coursework, real-world application, and in-person networking sessions. Participants will build their process improvement skills, explore automation strategies, and learn how to streamline and scale their work, whether leading from within or growing something of their own.

Graduates receive a verified certificate from York University School of Continuing Studies, recognizing their growth, applied skill development, and commitment to operational leadership.

The Certificate in Business Process Improvement is designed to equip professionals with the practical skills and tools to analyze, optimize, and automate business processes. Whether working in corporate, startup, nonprofit, or public sector organizations, participants will learn to drive digital transformation, improve organizational efficiency, and strengthen leadership capacity.

Hybrid format:
  • Orientation and graduation in-person (Southern Ontario)  
  • Instructional sessions live online via Zoom 
  • Additional coaching, peer sessions, and community events offered virtually 

Participants should plan to commit at least 10 hours per week, including:  

  • 6-hour weekly virtual sessions.  
  • 36 hours on readings, interactive content, and learning activities, and peer engagement.  
  • Optional additional time may be required depending on your personal development goals (office hours).

Module 1: CSBI1000 – Fundamentals of Business Process Improvement
  • Course Dates: September 9 – September 28

Module 2: CSBI1010 – Business Process Automation
  • Course Dates: September 29 – October 19 
  • Class Sessions: September 29, October 1, 6, 8, 13, 15 (Live on Zoom) 
  • Class Time: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Module 3: CSBI1020 – Process Improvement and Change Management
  • Course Dates: October 20 – November 9 
  • Class Sessions: October 20, 22, 27, 29, November 3, 5 (Live on Zoom) 
  • Class Time: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
This program is designed for Black-identifying professionals who are driving operational excellence in their organizations. Ideal participants include:
  1. Entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and startup operators 
  2. Corporate professionals leading or supporting business transformation 
  3. Operations managers, business analysts, business architects, and transformation consultants 
  4. Professionals in project management offices (PMO), or those specializing in process or systems analysis 
  5. Team members working in business operations, HR, finance, administration, project management, or consulting 
  6. Nonprofit, public sector, or small business professionals aiming to optimize operational processes

A Certificate in Business Process Improvement from York University School of Continuing Studies.

  1. Attend all scheduled sessions (maximum 1 excused absence with advance notice) 
  2. Participate fully (cameras on during live virtual sessions) 
  3. Complete required assessments (case studies, project briefs, multiple-choice sets, assigned readings) 
  4. Submit all deliverables 
  5. Grading is aligned with the official York University grading scheme.

Note: You do not need a university or college degree to participate.

No, applicants do not need prior university or college credentials.

A maximum of 25 participants will be selected for the Fall 2025 cohort.
