The Certificate in Business Process Improvement is an intensive 9-week program designed to equip Black-identifying entrepreneurs and professionals with the tools, frameworks, and leadership skills needed to thrive in today’s workforce.

In partnership with York University School of Continuing Studies, this blended learning experience combines live virtual classes, asynchronous coursework, real-world application, and in-person networking sessions. Participants will build their process improvement skills, explore automation strategies, and learn how to streamline and scale their work, whether leading from within or growing something of their own.

Selected participants receive a fully sponsored seat valued at $3,012.30 CAD, because access to world-class professional development shouldn’t be the barrier between where you are and where you’re going.

Graduates receive a verified certificate from York University School of Continuing Studies, recognizing their growth, applied skill development, and commitment to operational leadership.

Topics of study

Introduces the core frameworks and tools to map, analyze, and optimize business processes for greater efficiency. This is where you build your foundational language for process improvement and begin applying it to your own business context.

Format: Blended (Live Online Zoom + Asynchronous Components)

Explores strategies, technologies, and ethical considerations for streamlining workflows using automation and low-code/no-code tools. Whether you’re scaling a business, advising clients, or reducing administrative burden in a non-profit, this module connects automation strategy to your real operating context.

Format: Hybrid (Live Online Zoom + Asynchronous Components)

Focuses on leading change initiatives, engaging stakeholders, and sustaining improvements through effective communication and KPI tracking. This is where operational expertise meets people leadership — critical whether you’re influencing a boardroom, a leadership team, or a department.

The Certificate in Business Process Improvement (BPI) is a 9-week, live virtual training designed to equip Black entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs with tools and strategies to lead and support digital transformation. Delivered by industry experts through York University School of Continuing Studies.

You Are Eligible If You Are:
– Black-identifying
– Age 18 or older
– Residing in Southern Ontario
– An entrepreneur, business owner, manager, supervisor, team lead, or professional looking to develop leadership and business skills.

A university or college degree is not required.

Hybrid Format: (Live Online Zoom + Asynchronous Components + In-person Socials)
Orientation (In-person): September 10, 2026
Weekly Classes (Live Virtual): Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM, starting September 15, 2026
Program Professional Mixer (In-person): Week of October 5-9, 2026
Certificate Presentation (In-person): December 10, 2026

Participants should plan to commit at least 12-15 hours per week, including:
– 6-hour weekly virtual sessions
– Preparation, readings, and peer engagement
– Advancing your assignments
– Capstone project development across all three modules
– Optional additional time may be required, depending on your personal development goals

A maximum of 25 participants will be selected for the Fall 2026 cohort.

Course 3: CSBI1020 – Process Improvement and Change Management
Course Dates: Course 3—November 8-November 29
Class Sessions: November 10, 12, 17, 19, 23, 26 (Live on Zoom)

This program is designed for Black-identifying professionals who are driving operational excellence in their organizations.

Ideal participants include:
1. Entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and startup operators
2. Corporate professionals leading or supporting business transformation
3. Operations managers, business analysts, business architects, and transformation consultants
4. Professionals in project management offices (PMO), or those specializing in process or systems analysis
5. Team members working in business operations, HR, finance, administration, project management, or consulting
6. Nonprofit, public sector, or small business professionals aiming to optimize operational processes

– Attend all scheduled sessions (maximum 3 excused absences with advance notice)
– Participate fully (cameras on during live virtual sessions)
– Complete required assessments (case studies, project briefs, multiple-choice sets, assigned readings)
– Submit all deliverables
– Grading is aligned with the official York University grading scheme.
